ZIMMERMAN TO

DIRECT WORK OF

NEW COMPANY

Fiberglas Corporation

Is Announced.

NO CHANGES HERE

Two Owens - Illinois

Divisions Remain.

W. Paul Zimmerman, widely known Muncie manufacturer, today resigned as general manager of the industrial and products division of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company to become vice-president in charge of the manufacture and sales of the newly-organized Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation.

Mr. Zimmermans headquarters will be at Toledo, Ohio, with offices in the Second National Bank Building. His office has been in Toledo more than a year. Until then he was manager of the Hemingray Division of the Owens-Illinois Glass Company here.

Announcement was made today by William E. Levis, president of Owens-Illinois, that the Insulux Glass Block Division and the Hemingray Insulator Division will remain at the Muncie plant. Carl H. Smith remains as manager of the Insulux Block Division with M. K. Holmes in charge of the Hemingray insulator developments and sales. Mr. Zimmerman is a member of the directing committee of this division. It will be known as the Insulux Products Division.

Results Far-Reaching.

The new corporation with which Mr. Zimmerman will be associated is jointly financed by Owens-Illinois and the Coming Glass Works of Coming. N. Y. Harold Boechenstein [sic] Boeschenstein who resigned his position with Owens-Illinois to become president of the corporaton [sic] corporation, said the new enterprise marked the culmination of development work by the two companies involving expenditure of about $5,000,000.

He predicted far-reaching effects of the developments in such fields as household equipment, construction. electrical power and refrigeration installation.

The application of glass to fields previously dominated by organic textiles and other materials he said, is well out of the experimental stage in many phases.

Productions of the fiberglas products now is under way at the Corning and Newark, Ohio, plants.

Statement Issued.

Mr. Levis' statement announcing the changes follows:

The new company in acquiring both Owens Illinois Glass Company and Corning Glass works obtains substantially all of their respective assets devoted to development and production of glass fiber products, including plants at Newark. Ohio, and Coming. N. Y. The general offices of the company will be in the Second National Bank Building, Toledo. Sales offices will be maintained in New York and other cities. The company is jointly financed by Owens-Illinois and Corning, but will not operate as a subsidiary of either.

James Slayter, heretofore director of the Newark laboratory, will also be associated with the Owens-Corning Corporation as vice-president, and H. R. Winkle, formerly assistant comptroller of Owens-Illinois, will be its comptroller.

"Effective November 1, 1938, Mr. Boeschenstein has resigned as vice-president and general manager and as a member of the planning committee of Owens-Illinois Glass Company, and Mr. J. P. Levis has been elected to succeed him. Mr. Boeschenstein will continue as a director of the parent company and of Libbey Glass Company and Owens-Illinois Can Company.

"H. S. Wade has been elected vice-president and general manager of Owens-Illinois Pacific Coast Company, and R. B. Haworth has been appointed general factories manager of this subsidiary.
