A BLAZE.

The Elgin Kerosene Can Co.

Burnt Out.

Sunday morning about 12:30 o’clock the building occupied by the Elgin Kerosene Can company, at Cincinnati, Ohio, took fire in the third story, and, though not burnt beyond repair, the structure was considerably damaged. Quite a large number of the cans were saved, though more or less injured by water; beside the play of the fire hose, the rain poured; down in torrents. In about twenty minutes from the outbreak, the flames were under control.

Two firemen, named Wisby and Clarke, were seriously injured by falling timbers. The books of the company were, we believe, entirely destroyed. The firm consisted of Messrs. Bartel, Eaton & Swan. Bartel and Eaton were there during the fire; T. F. Swan, who was telegraphed for went on yesterday noon. The: loss is not yet ascertained. We understand the company were insured for $3,000.

Keywords:Hemingray : Oil Can
Researcher notes:It appears that prior to Hemingray becoming the sole manufacturer of Elgin Oil Cans, Hemingray made these for the "Elgin Kerosene Can Co." Hemingray likely acquired the full rights following this fire to sell them as their own product.
