A FEW weeks ago a man going under the name of John White went to Cadiz with his wife and family of three children, and pretended to open negotiations for the purchase, for an Eastern company of which he was the Secretary, of the Cadiz Glass Works, which has been lying idle for some time. The stockholders were rejoiced at the prospect of "letting go" of their glass investment, and treated him handsomely. During his stay in the town he made several purchases of jewelry and clothing on credit, and bought a $150 gold watch from the engineer of the Cadiz branch, paying for it with a check on the 1st National Bank, which upon presentation was dishonored, there being no funds. The fellow hired a pair of gray horses from the stable of J. W. Grimes on Friday, to drive to Bridgeport. The story of his transactions caused suspicion, and on Saturday, Mr. Grimes and Mr. Obe Slemmons started in search of the man driving over to this place. Not striking the trail they retraced their way, and found that he had gone with the team to New Alexandria, on the Pan Handle. There the party tied the team to a fence stake and took the train to Pittsburgh, therefore Cadiz mourns.
