PLANT TO RE-OPEN SOON, MORE MEN

Brookfield Glass Co. to Make Insulators at Plant in Old Bridge Soon.

Special to the EVENING NEWS. Old Bridge. Aug 16. -- The local plant of the Brookfield Glass Company, of New York city, has closed all departments for the balance of the summer in order to make much needed repairs to the furnace and building.

A representative of the company when interviewed by the NEWS correspondent, stated he thought they would be ready to start again about October 1, which will mean the reemployment of all its employees number 350. The company has also under way a huge plant for the manufacture of porcelain insulators and upon completion will necessitate the hiring of a hundred more hands, which means more business for the borough. Since most of the large railroads, including the Pennsylvania, Central Railroad of New Jersey and other large companies have adopted the use of porcelain insulators to replace their entire equipment of glass, the demand has been so great that the Brookfield Company will venture upon the new industry.

Many experiments have been tried and thousands of dollars have been spent by nearly every manufacturer of glass insulators in the country to improve the body of the insulator so they would resist the sudden changes in the temperature, all without success, which may be attributed to the new industry here, though the manufacture of porcelain insulators has been made for a number of years, still only on a small scale.
