Seek to Settle

Glass Walkout

TOLEDO, O. (AP) — Representatives of the pressed and blown glass manufacturers and of the AFL flint glass workers meet here today with a federal mediator in an effort to settle a three-day strike of 7,000 workers at 11 plants in five states.

The union has turned down a package offer the employers say would average 14 to 15 cents hourly. When negotiations opened in Atlantic City July 28, the glass workers were asking 20 cents or 20 per cent more hourly, which ever was higher. Present average hourly wages were unavailable.

The old contract between the union and companies expired a week ago today. The struck: plants are:

Federal Glass Co. of Columbus, O.; Anchor Hocking Glass Corp.'s two plants at Lancaster, O.; Libbey Glass division of Owens-Illinois Glass Co., Toledo; Kimble Glass Co., Muncie, Ind., Owens-Illinois subsidiary; Hazel Atlas Glass Co., Clarksburg, W. Va.; Jeanette, Pa., Glass Co.; Overmyer Mould Co. plants at Winchester, In., Greensburg, Pa., and Los Angeles; The Toldeo Mould Co.
