Brookfield Against Quigg.

New York, March 26. The Herald says" "William Brookfield, leader of the independent Republicans of New York City, has issued a statement to the effect that he is opposed to the attempt of Lemuel E. Quigg, president of the Republican county committee, and George C. Austin to wrest the leadership of the Twenty-first assembly district from Abraham Gruber. W.M.K. Olcott has written a letter in which he declares in favor of Gruber. President Quigg in a statement declares that former Mayor Strong and Mr. Brookfield are blinded by malice and bitterness and that passion and prejudice have usurped the place of reason and judgment.
