Mercie Peer Locke, wife of the late Fred M. Locke of Victor, died on Monday, May 12, 1952, following an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Locke, 86 years of age was born in Canandaigua, NY, the daughter of Andrew and Ellen Splaine Peer.

The families of both Mr. and Mrs. Locke were employed in railroad telegraph offices for many years, one at Canandaigua and the other in Honeoye Falls and through the acquaintance the young couple developed a friendship which culminated in their marriage, March 6, 1884.

Mr. Locke at an early age had shown a strong inclination to inventive practices and, with active participation by his wife, invented the high voltage porcelain insulator which for years was manufactured by the Locke Insulator Corporation in Victor. Another product to come out of Mr. Locke's laboratory was Pyrex glassware.

Mr. Locke died on April 15, 1930. After her husband's death, Mrs. Locke continued to make her home in Victor and enjoyed comparatively good health until just recently.

Surviving Mrs. Locke are four sons: Mort F. Locke of Dobbs Ferry, NY; Lewis [sic] Louis; F. Locke of Victor; Peer A. Locke of Rome, NY and James L. Locke of Canandaigua; one brother, William C. Peer of Canandaigua; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, May 15th, at 2 o'clock from the late home, with Rev. Nelson L. Lobdell officiating. Interment will take place in the Boughton Hill Cemetery.
