The glass business in Southern California is rather quiet at present. The McLaughlin, the Technical, the Southern and the Santa Ana Glass factories are all closed at the present time.

The West Coast Glass Company is running steady with heavy production. They manufacture milk bottles exclusively. Wm. Carter, Jr., is general manager, Z. Irwin, superintendent and Ray Chilcote and Louis Mossbrook are operating the mold shop, Ray being foreman. This company made each of the mold makers a present of one weeks' wages at Christmas.

Since the writer has not been working lately, he has been visiting the plants around here and among others visited the Long Beach Glass Company at Long Beach. This factory makes all kinds of prescription ware and is doing well. W. W. Watt is president; H. P. Dickinson, general manager, C. W. Plenkharp, superintendent. In the factory, Jim DeWolf is foreman on the first shift, Carl Moore, second shift and O. Payton is foreman on the third shift. M. Smith has charge of the packing department and O. D. McCord has charge of the crate shop. In the mold shop Vernon Rust, C. W. Ryan, Louis Boettcher, Russell Bates, Wm. Sanderbeck, Frank Gordon, John Elmore, and Nick Franzen, mold cleaner.

The mold shop is well equipped and the boys are congenial. V. Rust has charge of the shop.

Long Beach being on the ocean, boating and fishing are very popular amusements. C. W. Plenkharp, the superintendent of the factory, has a cabin cruiser for deep sea fishing and pleasure trips. Its length is 45 feet and beam, 10 feet. It has sleeping accommodations for eight persons. It is named Pal O'Mine, and besides having a 60 horsepower motor, it is equipped with sails.

A new company known as the Standard Glass Products Company is building a factory in Glendale, Calif., now. They will manufacture opal glass raised letters for signs. Will tell more about them later.
