ELECTRIC PORCELAIN

BUYS CLIMAX PLACE

Negotiations have been closed where the Electric Porcelain Manufacturing Company whose plant is on Monmouth Street, takes over the pottery building formerly owned by the Climax Pottery Company, on New York Avenue and seven vacant lots adjoining formerly owned hy the Warren-Balderston Company. It is the plan of the porcelain company to move its business to the property just purchased and which is now undergoing extensive alterations.

Next spring a $70,000 addition extending from Olden Avenue to Spruce Street on Yew York Avenue will be built and the business of the company will be greatly enlarged. At present the firm employs 60 hands. When it moves into its new quarters December 1, it will increase the number to 100. When the addition is completed the company will employ close to 600 persons.

The old Climax Pottery is small but complete. It only has a single kiln and its acocommodations are limited. Before the company takes possession it will spend $7,000 in alterations and the building of one additional kiln.

Plans are now being drawn for the new addition to be built next spring. It will be modern in every description, and will be about 150 feet in length and 127 feet in depth. All the working rooms will be on one floor, and there will be lunch and rest rooms for the women workers. Particular attention will be given to the sanitary arrangements and when comleted the plant will be one of the most complete and up to date in the state. Seven additional kilns will be built.

The Electric Porcelain Manufacturing Company is owned by H. T. Paiste, of Philadelphia, who is president of the concern. H. S. Yearsley is treasurer and Fred Whitehead is superintendent. The compiny has been in business here for about 20 years and specializes in electrical porcelain goods.

It was originally the plan of the board of directors of the company to move the plant to Philadelphia, but officers in close touch with the working of the plant and of the advantages offered by Trenton persuaded the board that this city was the best possible location for the plant.

The present plant of the company has been sold to the Crossley Machine Company.
