The first furnace stack that ever appeared in Allegheny City is just approaching completion. It surmounts one of the two glass furnaces now being built by the Westinghouse Electrical Co. on the site of their old air-brake factory on Robinson street. They will manufacture ware for electrical purposes exclusively, and probably only for their own use, as, though they have one factory already in this city, they have to give a great deal of their work to outside concerns. This is, as noted, the pioneer glass factory of Allegheny City, but she may yet acquire distinction in the industry, as she has in the production of iron and steel, leather, brass goods, stoves, fine lamps, and other manufactures.
