The increase in the price of oils for illuminating purposes, which will make people more careful with regard to using leaky and wasteful cans, reminds us that the HEMINGRAY GLASS COMPANY, of Cincinnati, Ohio, manufacture a most excellent can know as the "enterprise [sic] Empress" oil can. It is a glass can encased in heavy corrugated tin. Glass being the only cheap and readily available material that will resist the disintegrating action of mineral oils, never leaks. In order to provide against the natural fragility of glass, the heavy tin cover is put outside. There is also a thick felt packing at the bottom, which nullifies the effects of concussion should the can drop on the ground. It is thus practically as strong as a can made of the most stable material, and as it never leaks and never wears out, it is a permanent utensil in a house. The spout is provided with patent vents, and the can is manufactured under the Elgin patents. We might also remark here that this company do not confine themselves to the manufacture of oil cans alone, but make likewise lamps, kerosene and glass globes, cone shades, smoke bells, founts, jelly tumbles, fruit jars, insulators, flasks, beer bottles, oriental jars, and many other articles. Their office is in Covington, Ky., and salesroom at 68 Walnut street, Cincinnati.
