A New Lava Insulator. A recent addition to the already long list of insulators comes to us from Chattanooga, where the Steward Manufacturing Company is turning out large quantities of the neat and inexpensive form shown in our cuts. The material employed is very smooth, hard and strong, while the rounded form of the insulator presents the advantage of freeing the wire from any severe bending strain. The insulating properties of the lava compound are high and it is about as nearly indestructible as could be wished. Natural materials are now being very largely replaced for electrical purposes by various ingenious mixtures, of which the "lava" is one of the most familiar. The illustrations show both the general form of the insulator and a section exhibiting the smoothly curving surface by which the wire rests. The strength, durability and high insulating qualities are strong reccommendations.
