FLINT GLASS WORKERS.


The convention of the A. F. G. W. U. opens at Bellaire, O., on Monday next. Every preparation has been made by the flints of Bellaire and their townspeople to make the convention's success. The reports of President Smith and Secretary Dillon, the delegates will be pleased to hear, for they will show progress of the A. F. G. W. U. that many of them are not aware of. The report of Secretary Dillon especially is concise and complete, and most satisfactory. Below we give the official list of delegates to the convention. Those unions not mentioned have failed to make return of delegates:

Two conferences on the flint lists were held within the past ten days. The first on the shade branch was at New York and is fully explained in our Brooklyn conference, this matter going over until after the convention. The conference on the prescriptions ware list was held on Tuesday in this city, in the office of Wightmans. In behalf of the workers there were present: C. J. McHenry of Alton; Wm. Dooling, of Millville, N. J.; John Packer, of Chicago; Jas. McGinnis, of Philadelphia; Jas. Driver, of Parker's Landing; President Smith, and Secretary Dillon. The propositions on both sides were submitted but nothing was accomplished. The committee will meet again after the convention.

The trial of Hughey McManus at Wellsburg, W. Va., for the killing of a non-union man last summer, ended on Thursday of last week in a verdict of guilty of manslaughter. The last information we had was that he had not been sentenced and his counsel proposed to apply for a new trial. The flint workers of Wellsburg have gotten up a raffle of a lady's gold watch for his benefit, to occur July 28. The tickets are 50 cents each.

Chairman William Ruhe, of the reunion committee of the flints, states that the next meeting of the committee to wind up accounts will occur probably on July 13, at Bellaire, O., and that the members of the committee will be officially notified of the meeting this week.

The new Findlay flint glass works is completed and will start up with the next fire.

The Brilliant Glass Works, at Brilliant, O., will build a factory at Huff's Station, Gillender's works, Greensburg, Pa. It will be ready for operation the beginning of the new blast.

Work on the electric light glass works of the Westinghouse Company at Wilmerding, Pa., has begun.

The Flint Glass Manufacturers' association hold their annual convention at Spring Lake, N. J., on July 17.

W. S. McKee, mold maker, shut his shop down July 8 for a two week holiday. Most of he mold shops did the same thing.

The Peerless lead glass works, of Pittsburg, was chartered this week. The capital stock is $60,000 and the shareholders are: William Schultze, James W. Hay, Joseph McMurry, Michael Mullen, Frederick Hattman, and John Patterson, all of Pittsburg.
