Pioneer Business Man of

New Lexington Dead.


New Lexington, O., Feb. 2. — Andrew J. Ward died at the family home here at 5:45 o'clock Thursday morning, after suffering for a long time from cancer. He was 61 years old. Mr. Ward was one of the leading merchants of New Lexington and was the surviving member of the firm of Ward Brothers. He had been engaged in business in the same room for the past 80 years. He was a stockholder and one of the directors of the Star Manufacturing company, was a stockholder in the now Perry county bank and also in the Porcelain company of that place.

He was a consistent member of the Catholic church, a member of the Holy Name society, a Knight of Columbus, and a member of the order of Elks. Ho was a public spirited citizen of sterling character and had a wide acquaintance in this county. He is survived by a widow and six children. One son, John A. Ward, and four daughters are at home.

Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Rose's church. Burial in New Lexington cemetery.
