TO GET BETTER PRICES.

Press and Blown Flint Manufacturers

Have Big Meeting.

WILL BOOST COMMON TUMBLERS.

Effort to Get a General Agreement to

a Stiff Advance.

One of the largest meeting of press and blown glass manufacturers in years was held in this city Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the feasibility of a general advance in prices. The subject was thoroughly discussed and the interchange of ideas is sure to go far towards bringing about better price conditions.

A committee was appointed to crystallize the work of the meetings in a classified list of ware with a general advance in prices, some saying the average advance will come close to 15 per cent. The meeting adjourned to meet again when the committee is ready to report. This may be a week or longer. As soon as the committee makes its report and it suits those present, efforts will at once be made to get all the firms to agree to the proposed advances in their lines. Not much trouble is anticipated in getting an effective understanding as prices have dropped so low that there is general complaint from all.

The meeting was not of any glass association, but was a general conference looking towards a price advance. H. C. Fry, of the Rochester Tumbler Co., presided and representatives were present from the following firms: Rochester Tumbler Co., Rochester, Pa.; Bryce, Higbee & Co., Homestead; Bryce Bros., Mt. Pleasant; Co-operative Fling Glass Co., Beaver Falls, Pa.; Consolidated Lamp & Glass Co., Coraopolis; Dithridge & Co., Jeannette; Geo. Duncan's Sons & Co., and Washington Glass Mfg. Co., Washington, Pa.; Gillinder & Sons, Philadelphia, Pa.; Greensburg (Pa.) Glass Co., Ltd.; Northwood Glass Co., Indiana, Pa.; Tarentum Glass Co.; Tarentum, Pa.; United States Glass Co.; Pittsburg Glass Co., Allegheny, Pa.; Robinson Glass Co., Zanesville, O.; Toledo Glass Co., Toledo, O.; Central Glass Works, Wheeling, W. Va.; Fostoria Glass Co., Moundsville, W. Va.; Riverside Glass Works, Wellsburg, W. Va.; Seneca Glass Co., Morgantown, W. Va.; Canton Glass Co., Marion, Ind.; Central Glass Co., Summitville, Ind.; Hemingray Glass Co., Muncie, Ind.; Model Flint Glass Co., Albany, Ind.; Ohio Flint Glass Co., Dunkirk, Ind.

A great effort will be made to put the price of common press tumblers at least up to the cost of production. Just now the firm that gets 13 cents a dozen for them is considered lucky, while 10 cents a dozen is a common quotation. At the meeting it was demonstrated on the blackboard that the cost of making these tumblers was 16.68 cent a dozen.

Beer mugs will also be hoisted up a few points, and from present indications a pretty stiff and general advance can be expected in the general tableware line, which has sagged so woefully of late.
