Pilkington Brothers Ltd. of England signs contract with Russia for a license to use the float glass process.

July

Pilkington Glass Ltd. opens new $30-million float glass plant at Scarborough, Canada; PPG Industries breaks ground for new float glass plant near Meadville, Pa., which will open in 1968.

November

Pilkington Brothers, Ltd. announces a new development, known as surface modification, to permit the economic production of comparatively small quantities of float glass with special characteristics, such as tinted glass.
