March

Libbey Products, Owens-Illinois division that produces table glassware, marks the 150th year of continuous operation for the current division and predecessor company.

April

Edwin D. Dodd, former executive vice-president, is elected president and chief operating officer of Owens-Illinois, succeeding Raymond H. Mulford, who is elected chairman of the board of directors to replace J. P. Levis. Mr. Levis will continue as a director and chairman of the executive committee.

July

Managements of Owens-Illinois Inc., and Lily-Tulip Cup Corporation reach agreement in principle for combining two firms through issuance of O-I stock to Lily-Tulip shareholders.
