THE Indianapolis Journal says, "Claude Matthews has only been a Democrat for six years." This is a mistake. Ralph Hemingray of this city, a Republican and one of the proprietors of the Hemingray glass works, is a brother-in-law of Claude Mattbews, having married Mr. Matthews' sister. In conversation with the editor of this paper last evening, Mr. Hemingray stated the Journal was mistaken. He said Mr. Matthews had always been a Democrat and that his democracy could not be questioned. The Journal must find some other grounds of attack upon the Vermillion county farmer. This one has been nipped in the bud in less than forty eight hours after Matthews' nomination.
