TWO BIG CONVENTIONS SOON

Thousands of Dollars Now Being

Paid to Workmen — News of the

Local Labor Unions.

A total number of probably 2,000 Muncie glass workers are now at liberty for two months. At the Ball brothers plant yesterday the regular weekly settlement was made with pressers and their helpers, which will be followed with a final settlement later this week. The stamping and shipping departments will continue at full force and will probably operate during the entire summer, with a pay roll of 500 names.

The Ball brothers pay roll will aggregate thousands of dollars and will be greater at the end of this fire than ever before, as the system of holding a week's wages back from the first has been followed and will, with the increased force, run the figures to an enormous sum by the time final settlement is made this week. The members of the firm state that figures cannot yet be given as several days' work on accounts is yet undone.

One tank at Hemingray's big plant is still in operation. About 275 men leave the two tanks which will be idle and a like number will continue at work until later in the summer on the shipping forces and at the one furnace.

The Boldt factory will be idle in all departments for two months.
