From nine o'clock on, cab after cab rolled up to the entrance of the Assembly hall, in Shirk's block last evening, conveying ladies and gentlemen to the assembly which, took place there. As they alighted from their carriages a mounted groomsman awaited to assist them to the walk where on canvas and under a large canopy they ascended the stairway. In the dressing-room maids removed the wraps of the ladies and soon they entered the reception hall appearing in gowns, which were dreams of style and taste. The hall was beautifully decorated by the Muncie Flora company with holly and several banks of palms. Numerous pieces of tapestry hung on the walls, large druggets laid on the floor, many comfortable chairs, a cozy corner, neatly arranged greeted the eyes of the guests. Soon engagements for all dances were made and in a moment the enchanting music of Montani's orchestra of Indianapolis, was heard, then the floor of the assembly hall was filled with ladies and gentlemen fully enjoying the music by their dancing and appreciating it by the way the orchestra was continuously encored by them. Between the numbers the punch bowl was frequently visited where the guests were refreshed with delightful punch served by Hummel, the caterer.
