The "American Beauty" reception given yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Rush E. Evans, at her home on East Main street, was one of the most beautiful entertainments of the season. Mrs. Eugene Fields, of Chicago, was the guest of honor. The decorations were the production of Humfeld, the florist. At the doors hung portieres of smilax, the chandeliers were tastefully draped with the same. About the dining wall was a frieze of American Beauty roses, with longer and shorter stems, regularly arranged, making a charming effect. On the large table were elegant lace doilies, on which were cut glass bon-bon trays, containing bon-bons of the color of the American beauty. About the cut glass vase, containing an immense bunch of the American Beauty roses, was a decoration of very wide satin ribbon, a perfect match to the roses, being a large bow about the roses, with the long loops and ends of the ribbon to the corners of the table. The doors were sill mounted with potted plants of dainty shades. Hidden behind a bank palms in the back parlor was the harpist who played bewitching music. One-hundred and twenty-five guests were received by the hostess. who was assisted by Mrs. C. L. Bender, Mr. J. Arthur Meeks, Mrs. W. L. Little, Miss Koons, Miss Hemingray. Mrs. L. S. Ganter and Miss Gray presided at the coffee urn, while, in the den. Miss McNaughton and Miss Turner served punch. Mrs. Price, the caterer, served a luncheon which was unusually fine, every course helping to carry out the color scheme. The punch was also of the same shade.
