MAGNIFICENT STAG SUPPER
Given at the Home of Dr. A. K. Smith
Last Night.
One of the finest stag dinner parties ever given in this city was that given last night at the home of Dr. and Mrs. A. K. Smith on East Jackson street, at which Dr. Smith and Mr. L. J. Over were the hosts. It was a farewell party to the glass manufacturers who lately sold their interests, to the glass trust.
While a large music box furnished music throughout the evening, an elaborate ten course dinner was served. Covers were plated for eleven. Everything was extremely artistic from first to last. The house with its illumination and the decorations were like a dream, everything in perfect harmony with the season. The parlors, reception hall, library and music room were beautifully decorated with southern asparagus, golden-rod and colors of the autumn leaves. The dining room presented an ideal appearance. On center of the table was a mass of pink roses with smilax and pink ribbon decorations; at either end were cut glass candalabra [sic] candelabra with pink candles and at the top of each were beautiful red roses. This is to be sent to Mrs. Ralph Hemingray at Covington, Ky., an intimate friend of Mrs. Smith.
Cut glass and fine china completed the setting of the table. The sideboard was a bank of ferns and palms as was also the mantle. The windows were curtained with beautiful draperies of southern smilax.
The guests were presented with souvenirs of the occasion, consisting of menu cards, the frontispiece of each being an artistic etching, no two alike, above which was a beautiful monogram of Dr. Smith, and below the monogram of Mr. Over. On the lower left-hand corner was the date. Each souvenir was tied with a different colored ribbon.
The guest of honor was Mr. J. E. Van Derventer, a prominent glass manufacturer, of Anderson.
Them other guests were: Mr. Ralph Hemingray, Mr. William Gill, Mr. Isaac Humphrey, Hon. Walter L. Ball, Mr. J. R. Johnson, Mr. Clinton Milligan, Mr. George Cobb.
