Muncie May Lose Factories.

MUNCIE, IND., Dec. 24. - According to rumors afloat in this town we will be short of two glass factories in the near future, namely, the Muncie Glass Co. and Hemingray's. The main reason is the trouble they encounter with the shortage of boys; then they also claim the gas supply is short. It will affect this town much. By the appearance of things the gas belt has reached its zenith. The Muncie Glass Co. lay the blame for boy shortage to the strictness of the truant law, which compels boys and girls under the age of 14 to attend school three consecutive months each year, compelling manufacturers to hire man help at a much higher figure than the boys, while their work is not as satisfactory as that of the boys.

James O'Donnell has left for Pittsburg to take a place. - George Bithing and Paxon Otis spent Christmas at Marion, Ind.

Mike O'Rourke, of L. U. 91, was the victor in the "Rustic" prize contest.

The two window glass factories here, Maring, Hart & Co. and Over's will start to blow next Friday night.

Joe Hacheny, an old Philadelphia boy now at Marion, paid the boys a visit. - George Timlin has left for is home, Philadelphia, to accept a position there. - Frank Lafferty was called home to Philadelphia last week by the serious illness of his mother.

Mr. Dickens' answer to "South Side" in your last issue, in my opinion, was very weak. He should be more explicit in his defense. It is about time he should take a drop to himself. When we say this, we voice the sentiments of a large part of the trade.

The committee having in charge the Workingman's Library, of this city, have secured the services of the Indiana and Opera House Orchestra for Sunday, Jan. 14, and promise a rare treat. Twenty musical numbers will be on the program, and several of the leading vocalists of the state will participate. Mr. U. Grant Sauders, the promoter of the library, promises the citizens of Muncie a fine musical entertainment. The library committee have secured an option on the entire third floor of the Patterson Block for its location. - WEST SIDE.
