SHORT SESSION
Business On the Slack and Very Little
Came Up Last Night.
Ten members of the city council put in appearance last night, but little business was transacted.
A motion that W. R. Moore be requested to pay rent for the room he occupied in the court house was carried.
The sewer committee reported that the engineer's report on the Charles street sewer was correct and that assessments be made according to the estimate made by the city commissioners. Carried.
Councilman Crabbs made a motion that in the absence of the chairman of ordinance committee, Mr. Gray be appointed to that position, and that they be requested to bring in a report on the Curfew ordinance. Carried.
Chief Shepp asked for and was granted four days' leave to attend the State fair. Mr. Shepp has been a faithful employe of the city and has earned many vacations which have not been asked for. His request was readily granted without a dissenting vote.
Chief Baldwin submitted his monthly report as follows:
Number of arrests 60 —Males 54, females 6; Charges — intoxication 27, assault and battery 13, carrying concealed weapons 1; gambling 6; provoke 9; larceny 3; vagrancy 1. Disposed of as follows: Work-house 18; paid 31; acquitted 8; appealed to Circuit court 3.
