Albert J. Evans was born in Covington, Ky., February 28, 1869, receiving his education in the public schools of that city, and started in the glass factory at the age of 14 years, serving his apprenticeship at the Hemingray Glass company. In 1887 he left their employ and started East, where he accepted a position and worked there until 1889, when he came West and accepted a position at Anderson, and in the same year came to Muncie, and has worked here ever since. Since he has been in Muncie he has held many responsible positions in labor unions. He is assistant secretary of Labor day committee, having been elected at Anderson. He has been secretary of Local 23, A. F. G. U. for three years, and represents that lodge at the Trades Council. He has represented his local at several conventions, and at the convention at Pittsburg was elected one of the executive officers. He is vice-president of the United Glass Workers of Indiana, and also organizer for the American Federation of Labor; he was appointed one of the grievance committee of the Muncie Trades Council and has done a great deal for organized labor in Muncie.
