SOCIAL EVENT.
Kindergarten Benefit Ball
Suffered From Weather,
But Was the Most Brilliant Dance of
the Season — Program and8
Those Present.
The Kindergarten benefit ball given last night in Shirk hall, under the personal management of Messrs. Jay Lee Turner and Robert K. Walker, was the most brilliant social event of the kind given in Muncie during the present season, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the thirty couples present.
Over 100 invitations were issued, but the sudden appearance of real summer weather prevented a majority from attending and from a financial point of view the entertainment was not the success hoped for.
The program of 26 numbers was begun with the grand march, led by Mr. Walker and Miss Judson, at 9 o'clock and was not completed until after midnight, when with considerable reluctancy the party dismissed. During the entire evening refreshments, consisting of coffee, sandwiches, pickles and orange ice was at the disposal of the guests, with caterer Miss Price and colored lady assistants in charge. The card and dancing rooms were decorated with potted plants and southern smilax. One large table in the reception hall was especially beautiful, being decorated with carnations and other cut flowers.
The platform occupied by the opera house orchestra contained a bower of plants, adding greatly to the effect of the most excellent music.
The costumes worn by the ladies were all new, and of the most exquisite taste, adding more than any other one thing to the brilliancy of the occasion some of the ladies carrying boquets [sic] bouquets the most beautiful ever seen in Muncie. The party had a sense of informality that was another pleasing feature, this being the result of the efforts of the popular young men in charge, and they were the recipients of many compliments at the close. The patronesses were Mesdames Edward Olcott and R. S. Gregory, and the invited guests present were:
