TOO MUCH NOISE

Robbers Detected in the Act

Last Night.

STOLE THE HOUSE DOG

And Then They Attempted to Rob the

Home of Robert Hemingray.

Family Was Awakened

Near the hour of 12 o'clock last night Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hemingray were awakened at their home on East Main street by a cracking sound, that came from a room directly under where they were sleeping.

Mr. Hemingray was quickly out of bed and peering out of the front window noticed three men on the sidewalk hurrying away from the house. Their apperance in the bright moonlight caused him to believe that they made the noise.

He went down stairs and upon entering the parlor, or front room leading from the veranda, noticed that the large front window was hoisted as high as the sash would permit, making an entrance nearly large enough for a man to walk in. A closer investigation showed that the robbers had forced the windows up with a chisel, and in doing so had broken the catch, and the breaking of this is what attracted the attention of Mr. and Mrs. Hemingray.

After opening the window the robbers waited to see if the noise would awaken the family, and when they discovered that it had, they quietly made a retreat, but had not the noise occurred as it did, Mr. and Mrs. Hemingray would have awoke this morning to find that their home had been ransacked, or probably a murder would have resulted, as had Mr. Hemingray discovered them in the house, there would nave been a shooting match on, so he was prepared for it.

The robbery was undoubtedly planned yesterday, as a small house dog owned by Mr. Hemingray, and one which would have bothered the robbers, was suddenly missed yesterday and was not at home last night.

The police were called by telephone, and officers Alstadt and Gallagher responded, but no clue could be found.
