BRILLIANT GATHERING.
Beautiful Minnetrista Visited
by Hundreds.
Society Out in Form and Most
Delightfully Entertained by Mr.
and Mrs. Ball Last Night.
Minnetrista, the palatial new home of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Ball in Northview, last night was the scene of the most brilliant and extensive social function ever given in Muncie.
The guests numbered over 300 and represented the very best elements of our social domain. The ladies were never more lovely in rich and costly gowns, and the gentlemen wore full dress suits. The beautiful home was perfection for such a gathering and was a bower of beauty throughout, and the service to the guests charmed all in a manner that seemed to have an informal air that was most pleasing.
Mr. and Mrs. Ball were most admirably assisted by Mrs. Harriet Johnston and Miss Nannie C. Love, who devoted the entire evening to the general pleasure of the visitors. Coffee and punch were served by Mrs. R. J. Beatty and Miss Edna Streeter and Anna Goddard, and in the dining room were Mrs. Robert Sheffield and Miss Bessie Williams, looking after the guests, who were served by colored waiters under the direction of Caterer Mrs. Price. Each visitor to the dining room was given the souvenir, a bunch of English violets, which was pinned on by the two young lady assistants.
The five last named ladies were bridesmaids at the marriage of the hostess.
Mrs. Johnston wore white crepe silk with duchess lace trimmings.
Miss Love's gown was rainbow tinted chiffon.
Miss Streeter, green silk with overdress, moussellin de soir.
Miss Goddard, white silk, jet trimmings.
Mrs. Beatty, pink satin, point lace trimmings, chiffon.
Miss Williams, white organdie over pink silk, carrying a bunch of pink rose-buds.
Mrs. Sheffield, white mousselline de soir.
The guests were received at the east entrance, sent upstairs to the cloak rooms and then came down the main staircase, entering the large reception hall and passed into the rear parlor where they were received by Mr. and Mrs. Ball who were unattended. Mrs. Ball was attired in white satin, duchess lace and pink velvet trimmings, with diamond ornaments. The gown was en train.
The visitors thronged the parlors, library, music room, conservatory, the "cozy nook," reception hall and the spacious dancing hall, where social intercourse was thoroughly enjoyed until midnight.
The interior of the entire house was profuse in the beautiful floral decorations, carefully formed with palms, American beauty roses, daffydilles [sic] daffodils, carnations, hycinths [sic] hyacinths and mammoth evergreen smilax, the latter entwined on chandaliers [sic] chandeliers, the stair case and curtains, and forming a border on the ceiling of the reception hall.
The dining room was in pink and white, with a profuse display of white carnations, American beauty roses and smilax. A huge bank of English violets occupying the center of the large table.
Music was furnished during the entire evening by Hart's orchestra of Indianapolis, it occupying an alcove on the first floor just off of the reception hall.
