IN CENTRAL AMERICA

Were Several Guests at the Home of

Dr. Winans Last Evening.

Dr. Harry M. Winans and C. F. W. Neely informally received a few gentlemen friends last evening at the home of the former, 906 East Adams street.

The party was “stag" in every sense of the word and the program was something entirely new and very novel. It was a Central American banquet in which the following articles, all from that far away land, were served in five courses:

COMIDA.

Supa de leche,                      Olivo,

Quesadilla,

Pez de Mar,                             Salsa,

Tortillas,                          Ostra (Cocktails)

Polluelo,              Patata dulce,           Arroz,

Hot Tomales,                         Frijoles Negros,

Clarete,

Sardino Salada,                         Barquillo,

Fruto         Nuez,            Cigarro,               Cafe.

The invited guests, all of whom but two were present, have been close students to Spanish books of learning for several days, familiarizing themselves for the occasion. Those invited were Messrs James Sprankle, F. R. Thrall, C. T. Dages, Will M. Patterson, H. H. Highland, W. L. Little, John M. Kirby, Charles Willard, George O. Cromwell, Ralph Hemingray, Harry R. Wysor, Judge C. E. Shipley, A. J. Williams and C. N. Wilcoxon.

On the front part of the printed bill of fare was the following inscription, “Stag Dinner, a la Espanola, by Dock and Farmer, Jan. 9, 1896. The guest who fails to eat heartily evidences his disrespect for the hosts." A center piece on the large dining table represented a pond, the margin of which was surrounded with grass, ferns and palms. In the pond was frogs, and on the grass water-birds, tirantulas [sic] tarantulas and snakes.

The beautiful parlors and dining apartments were appropriately decorated for the occasion with articles from Gautamaula [sic] Guatelmala, and the feast was prepared by a caterer from the tropical clime engaged for the occasion several months ago when the two hosts visited that country on a prospecting tour.

Colored waiters were the servants and during the entire time while a special course was being served an orchestra, the presence of which had not before been discovered by the guests, played "Midway." After this selection, which is said to have lasted nearly one hour, the orchestra departed.

What occurred after the banquet could not be ascertained by the reporter, but all can feel assured that it was no sleeping party.
