QUART OF BLOOD

Lost by Thomas Doring in a

Fight Last Night.

Fouod Unconscious and Bleeding

on Macedonia Avenue

by Dennis Collins.

A mysterious cutting or slugging affair occurred last night which caused Thomas Doring to lose about a quart of blood and he has one of the sorest heads in Muncie this morning.

Doring is a well known character employed at Hemingray's Glass works and is better known as "Hog Eye." He had evidently bean imbibing in the flowing bowl last night and had succeeded in acquiring a good sized jag. At about 10 o'clock Dennis Collins, who also works at Hemingray's, was walking on Macedonia avenue, from Thomas Shannahan's saloon to John Weisse's place, when he noticed a man laying near a telephone pole. He walked over to the man and was surprised to find he was Doring and had a horrible wound in the top of his head. His hat was filled with blood and his shirt, coat and vest were saturated with blood. Collins placed him on a street car and took him to Dr. Kemper & Cowing's office where Dr. Cowing dressed his wounds.

Two square inches of his scalp was exposed where the flesh had been torn away. An artery had been severed and the blood was flowing from it in a small stream. The artery was tied and several stitches were then required to close the wound. His face had been badly beaten and he had a colored optic. His left hand had been bruised and was swollen.

When he entered the office he looked as if he had been dipped into a barrel of blood and yet be refused to tell how he received his wounds. All he would say was that he would get even with the men who did it. The wound was either made by a piece of iron or a heavy tirnber.

This is not the first time Doring has been taken to Dr. Cowing's office in a half slaughtered condition. He has had his jaw broken twice and his hand broken twice and all the wounds were received in fights and it has always been impossible to discover who did the work. Doring said last night that he was getting tired of being half killed by a gang of toughs and wished they would either kill him or let him alone.
