Property Owners Kick

Against the Paving.

Say They Are Financially

Embarrassed — Bond Ordinance

— Other Business

Transacted by the

Aldermen.

When Mayor Cromer called for petitions, memorials and remonstrances at the opening of the council last night, Alderman Gray arose and read lengthy remonstrances signed by several hundred people who reside along High and Washington streets. The residents of High street ask that their street be left unpaved for another year, as their financial condition will not permit them to pay for the improvement. The residents of Washington street also remonstrated against the paving recommended by the by the street and alley committee. They are also financially embarrassed — in the petition — and think their street is already in a good condition. The remonstrances were referred to the street and alley and finance committee.

A STREET OBSTRUCTED.

Lenon read a remonstrance which asked that Washington street between Mulberry and Walnut streets be kept vacated. At present wagons, horses, loads of hay, etc, are allowed to stand in the street during the day, almost completely obstructing the street, and also rendering it in a filthy condition. The matter was referred to the city engineer with instructions to clean the street and arrest people who in the future obstruct the street.

BONDS.

Attorney Warner introduced an ordinance for the issue of bonds amounting to $3,944.61, the amount waived on improvements that have been made in the city of Muncie. After suspension of the rules the ordinance was read a second time and passed.
