SUPPLEMENTAL TO THE SHOOTING. — The Killing of the negro, James Sanders, by Officer Hunter Lawrence was the principal theme of conversation yesterday. It seems clear from the facts thus far known that Officer Lawrence was entirely justified in the shooting, and it was therefore unfortunate that the police authorities tried to cover up and conceal the occurrence as they did night before last.

Robert Singer testified before the Coroner's Jury that he was standing near Sanders at the time of the shooting; that Sanders fired one shot from his revolver, and snapped the hammer three or four times, endeavoring to shoot again; that while he was thus engaged the fatal shot was fired from the opposite side of the street. There is not a more popular or discreet officer connected with the Covington police force than Hunter Lawrence, and we are free to say that he regrets the unfortunate occurrence as keenly as any one.

The weapon from which the fatal shot was fired is a No. 30 Remington revolver.

The ball bond of Lawrence, in the penalty of $3,000, was signed by Robert Hemingray, Esq., and Lieutenant Henry Linneman. He will have his examining trial this morning at eleven o'clock before Squires McLaughlin and Ewan, we believe.

An impression of the hammer found in one of the unexploded cartridges in Sanders' revolver, goes to bear out the statement of Singer to the effect that Sanders attempted to fire more than once, the supposition being that the chamber refused to revolve, thus leaving but one impression.
