German at Governor Stevenson's —The

Elite of the Cities.

 

The most fashionable and select of the "Ger­mans" of the season was given last evening at the residence of Governor Stevenson, in Coving­ton. The invitations comprehended thirty couples, and were intended only to embrace the intimate friends of the Governor's family.

The house was adorned with the most beautiful flowers, and the whole house was fragrant with the choicest exotics. The music consisted of twelve pieces of Seidensticker's band, and the waltzes made willing feet respond to sweetest notes.

Mrs. Governor Stevenson, assisted by her daugh­ters. Mrs. Edward Colston, Miss Mary Stevenson and Miss Judith Stevenson, received the guests. the guests.

The German was announced at 9:30. and at the call of Mr. Howard Woodrow the party responded to the figures.

The toilets were elegant, and embraced every taste, including Worth and the favorite Mrs. Cadwallader, of our own city.

The ref eshments [sic] refreshments invited the most fastidious taste, and the most delightful brands of champagne quenched the thirst of the never-weary dancers.

Among the guests were Hon. George H. Pendle­ton and the Misses Pendleton, Hon. Samuel F. Hunt, Mr. Edmund H. Pendleton and wife, Mr. William S. Ridgeway and wife, Mr. John Sher­lock and wife, Mr. Edward Barney and wife, the Misses Dandridge, the Misses Bailey, of Virginia, Misses Holmes, Miss Tate, Miss Mitchell, Miss Trimble, Mrs. General McIntosh, Mrs. T. D. Lin­coln and daughter, Miss Phipps, Miss Foster, Mr. William S. Ludlow, Mr. Charles Mitchell, Mr. Walker Hartwell, Mr. Arthur Stem, Mr. Chapman Johnson, Mr. Hemingray, Mr, Collins, Mr. Peter Shoenberger, Mr. John Benton, Mr. Spot, Dandridge and Mr. Howard Winslow.

The German was led by Mr. Harry Woodrow and Miss Steele, a guest of Miss Dandridge, and the favors were the best that could have been selected, and embraced every device appropriate to an occasion of this kind.

The guests separated at two o'clock this morning, with every benediction for the hospitable Gov­ernor.
