Boat Race planned between Hemingray employees and gas works employees

A double two-oared race between four representatives from the Cincinnati Gas-works and four from the Covington Glass-works will take place at five o'clock on next Saturday for a purse of $100 a side. The course will be from the Suspension bridge to the Fifth-street Ferry and return. The contestants are James Johnston and Pat Hickey, Stephen Purcell and Peter Purcell, and on the part of the Glass-works are Robert Elliot and Wm. Wallace, John Allen and Owen Green. A four-oared race for $25 a side, the Glass-works boys alone participating, over the same distance, will also take place. Alf. Pierce, P. Madden, L. Carey and L. Wagner form one side of the crews, and M. Farrell, W. Glenn, James Brown and M. Glenn the other. Charles Weeks, of the Fulton Boat Club, will act as referee. Stakeholder, B. Patton.
