DEMOCRATIC ANTI-VAN BUREN

MEETING.

 

A Meeting of the Democratic Anti-Van Buren citizens of the South Ward was held at the Indian Queen House on Saturday evening last, the 28th Sept., for the purpose of placing in nomination suitable candidates to be supported for the offices of Assessor, Judge, and Inspector, at the ensuing October Election.

The meeting was organized by calling Mr. Wm. J. Howard, to the Chair, and appointing Wm. H. Sutton, Secretary.

The following persons were then nominated for the several offices, without opposition, viz.

           For Assessor — Peter S. Berford,

           "     Judge — Minas Tindle.

           "     Inspector — Joseph Woodwell.

The Chairman then read the following resolu­tions, which were unanimously adopted:

Resolved, That the unusual active exertions now being made by the Loco Foco leaders in this City and County to elect their candidates, require that they be met by corresponding exertions of the Anti-Van Buren party.

Resolved, That we have full confidence in the political and moral worth of the Democratic Anti-Van Buren candidates for Legislative and county offices, and will make every honorable exertion to secure their election.

The following gentlemen were appointed a committee to procure tickets for the Inspector's Election, viz: Hugh Arters, Wm. H. Sutton, and Richard G. Berford.

The meeting then appointed the following persons to act as a committee of Vigilance for the South Ward.

Resolved, That the proceedings of this meet­ing be published in all the papers of the city favo­rable to the cause.
