A MERE catalogue of the philosophical, ornamental and useful articles made from glass, would fill many columns, and probably there is not a manufactory in the world which combines the fabrication of a tenth part of them, for while one will give its attention to window glass, another to mirror plate, a third to ornamental ware, and others to domestic utensils. In the United States the Hemingray Glass Company, of Cincinnati, probably manufactures as varied an assortment as any other house, and has obtained a wide celebrity for excellence of each article it makes, standing especially high in public favor for its unrivalled [sic] unrivaled patent fruit jar, which, for ease of management and preserving qualities, has the highest reputation in this western country of any jar made in the Union. This is familiarly known among housewives as the screw-top jar, and has attained a national reputation as among the very best articles for the preservation of fruits and vegetables, and highly esteemed by all practical women on account of the great facility with which it can be effectually secured, and the perfect manner in which the contents are preserved in any climate and for any length of time.

At this immense factory may be seen the process of making glass of every quality, from the common black and green bottle to the most expensie lense, which will, when properly adjusted, pierce the milky way and divide it into star, or by the artist ray of sunlight stamp the features of a friend upon the albumenized plate of the photographer. It would far exceed our limits to even mention the numerous applications of crystal to the arts and domestic use which may be found at the Hemingray Glass Works, on Walnut street Cincinnati.
