Fire at the Glass-House.

The flint-house at Hemingray's glass works was partly destroyed by fire last night. The fire originated near the pot-arch and burned rather lively until about half-past eleven o'clock, when the flames were put out. It was a rather difficult fire to fight, owing to the location of the building. The flames also communicated in the mixing-room, and the contents of that were partly destroyed. How the fire originated is still a mystery, and even the watchman did not know there was a fire until after he was informed by several young men who were two or three squares away. The shed between the packing-room and blowing establishment was also destroyed. The loss will not exceed $3,000, which is fully covered by insurance. This will keep a number of men out of employment for several months more. The flood compelled the entire works to shut down, and they lost over $15,000 by it. Now comes this disaster, which will require nearly two months to repair. The fire department responded quickly, but they experienced some difficulty owing to a defect in one of the engines.
