LOS ANGELES CONCERN GETS HUGE CONTRACT New machinery costing $40,000 has been ordered by the California Glass Insulator company to increase the capacity of their Los Angeles plant and to take care of a single firm's order for 15,000,000 insulators. This is one of the largest contracts of its kind ever made in the West and establishes this industry as one of the foremost in Southern California. The contract just closed involves an expenditure of $1,500,000 by the Pacific States Electric company, but the manufacturers say this is but a step toward bringing Los Angeles to the front in the insulator manufacturing business. It paves the way for competition with Eastern manufacturing firms for Oriental business, which is growing rapidly. The payroll of the California Glass Insulator company now totals $10,000 a month, but that will be appreciably enlarged within the year. President Arthur Munn sees a great future for the business in Los Angeles. The doors of the plant will be thrown open to the public Thursday afternoon and Friday evening. Those interested may go to the plant at the company’s expense and see the old glass blowing method contrasted with the work of the modern machines. |
