GLASS FACTORY

AGAIN IN FULL BLAST

Running Night and Day with Full Force -

Adds Glass Jars to Output

With a crew of nearly eighty men the California Glass Insulator company again began the manufacture of products at the factory on Anaheim road Saturday.

For months previous to the inauguration of the present run the company was installing machinery at the factory, the only plant of its kind on the Pacific coast.

The factory starts manufacturing with the same officers in charge as before, with the exception of the managership, which was formerly under the direction of Mr. Frist, but now under the management of Charles L. Eshelman. Mr. Eshelman is not only thoroughly versed in the manufacture of glass bottles, insulators and other glass products, but is also a business man of much ability and standing. For twenty years before coming to the California Glass company he was manager of the Chicago Heights Glass works, one of the most successful manufacturing concerns of the kind in that section, due to the successful management of Mr. Eshelman.

Among the new machines recently installed at the glass works is the "O’Neill" bottle machine. It is a narrow mouthed bottle blowing machine of the improved automatic reversing type and turns out something like 500 dozen bottles every eight hours. Simplicity and ease of operation and positiveness of results are its particular features. The operator simply "presses the button" and the machine does the rest. In addition to the O'Neill machine four other rapid fire "wide mouth" bottle machines and compressed air insulator machines have been installed since the last run. The insulator machines are operated by compressed air and are the only machines of the kind for the manufacture of insulators in the United States.

Improved Glass Top Fruit Jars

Long Beach will have the honor of being the home of the new fruit and milk jar that is to be put on the market through the California Glass company. It is without a doubt the handsomest fruit jar ever placed before the American public.

The new jar is called the Bloom jar and its salient feature is an inner spring seal of bamboo which makes any food contained in the jar absolutely proof against the invasion of germs and therefore impervious to decay. The patent glass top has received the recommendation of authorities upon the preservation of the public health through sanitarily canned goods at both New York and Washington.

For milk bottles in particular this Bloom glass top is perfection, simply because it is made of glass and the penetration of germ laden dust or the detrimental effect of metal is obviated. The construction of the glass top is such that the bottle is easily vacuumized, which seals the bottle hermetically, thus insuring the consumer that the bottle has not been tampered with or contaminated by flies or dust. In other words, it is a "save the baby" bottle.

Arthur G. Munn, president of the glass company, has purchased a large interest in the Bloom Glass Top Jar company with the understanding that the jars are to be manufactured on the Pacific coast exclusively by the California Glass company; it is also understood that the glass company may manufacture the tops for the entire United States,. Samples of the new Bloom jar will be ready for inspection in sixty days and will be on exhibition in the several stores and at the display rooms of the Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Stanley S. Stonaker, the efficient secretary of the glass company, has found that it will be necessary to arrange for stated days on which the public may inspect the factory. This has been found to be imperative owing to the fact that such a preponderance of interest has been evinced in the factory by the public at large that from fifty to a hundred visitors call at the factory daily, and it is impossible to show them the proper attention and interest. In the future, therefore, the factory will be open to visitors between the hours of 2 and 4 on Thursday afternoons. At that time the employes will be glad to answer questions and intelligently explain the work that is being carried on at the factory.
