Member Express Sympathy

A special meeting of the Commercial club was held last night in order that the club might take appropriate action upon the death of John W. Little, who died Sunday, and who, for a number of years was treasurer of the club. The members decided that there should be committees appointed to draft resolutions and to purchase a floral offering. W. W. Wadsworth. W. H. Tobin and L. Mambourg were appointed to secure the floral offering and R. S. Gregory, James Boyce and Dr. F. G. Jackson were appointed to draft resolutions of respect and also to look after general arrangements.

The funeral ceremonies will be devoid of any great amount of conventionality and elaborate ceremonies. The Commercial club will probably attend in a body and the I. O. O. F. lodge of which the deceased was a member and trustee also will attend. The members of the Commercial club will assemble at the club's apartments at 4 o'clock and march to the Little residence where funeral will be held at 5 o’clock Rev. Mr. Oxtoby of the First Presbyterian church will be in charge. A choir composed of Mrs. Eugene Kelley, Miss Carroll Hemingray, Mr. George Scott and Mr. George Benham will sing. The pallbearers will be C. M. Kimbrough, C. W. Sheritt, J. F. Wildman, C. A. Budd, H. Roads, T. H Kirby, R Scott and J. C. Eiler.

Among the floral offerings which were profuse and beautiful was a design sent by John C. Eiler and Dr. C. A. Budd who with Mr. Little formed a Birthday club. The flowers were all from the gardens of Mr. Eiler. The design was in the form of a broken circle.

THE RESOLUTIONS.

The resolutions committee from the Commercial club on the death of John W. Little today made the following report:

Your committee on resolutions, on the life and death of John W. Little, submit the following:

John W. Little in life, was a member of this club; he was also, for more than forty years, a citizen of Muncie; he was widely and intimately known among the people; he was commonly known in commercial and financial matters as a business man. He was a man of great business culture and possessed a methodical turn of mild that gave him special prominence in the management of worldly affairs. He bore the unquestioned reputation of fidelity to all; exactness in business, supplemented by the attributes of honesty, conviction and courage. He was at all times affable, courteous and fair in his dealings among men. He possessed the rare gifts of the gentlemen who could differ in opinion with another in politics, religion or business and accord to him the rights of judgment and conscience he claimed for himself.

He was as loyal to his country as he was faithful to duty. In 1861 he was only a boy. At that time the perpetuity of the republic was in jeopardy, and like the patriot he was, he voluntarily assumed the duties and hardships of a union soldier and bore them through the fierce conflict until the war was over. The flag to him was symbolical of a united country and the emblem of liberty; and as such, demanded as well as required the homage of all.

He was among the active members of this club. He was its treasurer. The club and all its members will miss him. His work is now ended and we can only profit by the lessons and teachings he has given us. In view of the foregoing,

Be it resolved, That in the death of John W. Little, this club has lost a most valuable member and in testimonials of our sincere grief of the great loss that the rooms of the club be draped in mourning for a period of thirty days.

Resolved, That this club and the individual members thereof, extend to the widow and the brothers and sister of the deceased, our sincerest sympathy.

Resolved, That a copy of this preamble and resolution be furnished to the widow of the deceased under the seal of the club and that a copy of the same be furnished to the newspapers of the city of Muncie, for publication.

                                        Respectfully submitted,

                                                        R. S. GREGORY,

                                                        F. G. Jackson,

                                                        JAMES BOYCE,

                                                                    Committee.
