INSPECTOR OF ALL FACTORIES Annual Visit of Deputy Factoty Inspector Harvey A. Richards. GOOD REPORT OF MUNCIE PLANTS No Violations of the Child Labor Law Are Found Officer Commends Muncie Manufacturers for Discretion. Deputy Factory Inspector Harvey A. Richards is making the regular annual inspection of all the factories of Muncie. He began Monday and as far as the inspection has progressed reports that he has found conditions to be excellent. The Indiana steel and wire mill, owned by Kitselman Brother's; the American window glass factory, Ball Brothers' fruit jar factory, Gill Brothers' pot factory, Hemingray's glass factory, the American lawn mower factory, the Charles Boldt glass factory and the Muncie plant of the Republic Iron and steel company have been inspected. Deputy Richards reports that he found no violations of the Indiana child labor law. Through the glass factories he was accompanied by Truant Officer Stephen Streeter. He also reports that the factories are in excellent sanitary condition, he found in several factories that bolts were loose or that nuts were missing but these minor breakages which are liable to cause accidents were promptly repaired when Mr. Richards called the attention of the factory owners to them. He found no conditions existing that would endanger the lives of the workmen. Deputy Richards is inspecting the Indiana plant of the Republic Iron and Steel company this afternoon. He will continue his inspection until all the plants have been visited. Each evening he makes out a report which he forwards to State Factory Inspector D. H. McAbee. After completing his inspection here Deputy Factory Inspector T S. Williamson, of Anderson, to locate several fire escapes and see that buildings are equipped with them. |
