BECOMING RIOTOUS

Strikers at Hemingray

Factory Say They will Allow

No Boys to Work.

WAS ONE ASSAULT

Will Hickenbottom Injured —

Police Take Hand and Say

They will Stop Fights.

The boys' strike at the Hemingray glass factory assumed a rather hostile phase last night when Harry O'Neal and Charles and Edward Knecht assaulted William Hickeobottom, a boy who went to work in the place of one of the striking boys. His assailants waited until Hickenbottom finished his work and then assaulted him in a brutal manner, so it is alleged. The three boys were arrested and placed in jail for the night, but the O'Neal boy was released on bond later. He will be tried at 9 o’clock Saturday and it is probable that the other boys will be tried at the same time. The charge in assault and battery.

A number stated that they would continued to hold out until their demands were complied with and that all boys who attempted to work in their places would be given treatment similar to that given Hickenbottom. It is understood that some of the shops were at work this morning with men in the places of the boys. From the general tone of the boys' talk this morning it was inferred that the boys have assumed a defiant stand. Some of them seemed rather to glory in the prospect for hostilities. The management of the factory states that it has offered the boys all their labor is worth and will not make further concessions. The management has offered an increase of 10 cents per day but the boys are asking 20 cents advance.

The police will promptly handle all boys who attempt to interfere with others that want to work in the factory. No leniency will be shown because the strikers are boys. "They may strike if they want to," said an officer, this morning, "but when they attempt to break the laws they will discover their error."
