HE TOOK LAUDANUM.

Andrew Wilcoxon Was Despondent Over

Business and Other Troubles.

An ounce of laudanum, taken with suicidal intent, failed to end the life of Andrew Wilcoxon, a glassworker, formerly employed at the Hemingray factory. Wilcoxon went to his home on East Eighth street at 6 o’clock last evening and a few minutes later his wife discovered that he had taken the deadly drug. A stomach pump was used and Wilcoxon was compelled to walk up and down the city streets during the entire night to save his life.

Wilcoxon was placed in charge of a saloon on West Ninth street Monday by the Schlitz Brewing company. Patrick Hefferman, who formerly had charge of the saloon, is alleged to have demanded that Wilcoxon turn over the money taken in. Wilcoxon explained matters and the two became friends. Wilcoxon is said to have been despondent over this and another occurence [sic] occurance. He is sorry.
