GLASSWORKERS HOMEWARD BOUND FOR THE NEXT FIRE Muncie Glass Factories Will All Be Started Early in September; Ball Brothers' Starts on the Eighth Muncie glass workers are returning home from their vacation trips preparatory to resuming work in the local factories. Each train brings one or two additional men who have been absent for almost three months and now almost all of them are in the city, ready for work. A few, however, are still enjoying the fruits of their labor in other parts of the country and all of them will not be here until a few days before the opening of the factories for the next fire. Although it was announced when the factories closed down in July that they would resume operations September 1, none of them have yet announced that they would resume precisely on that day, but all will open up about that date. Ball Brothers will resume operations September 8, the day after Labor day. This delay is due partly on account of the many repairs that are being made at the factory and partly because the officials wish to give their employes an opportunity to participate in the Labor day celebration before beginning work. The Boldt factory, it is thought, will resume about the same time. Hemingray’s is expetced [sic] expected to start sooner. All is in readiness at the different factories to begin work and, it is thought, barring accidents, that the factories will be in condition to work for the next nine months without a shut down, judging from present prospects the men believe that the year will be a very successful one and that there will be plenty of orders to keep them busy throughout the year. The Happy Home Fishing club, which is composed mostly of glass workers employed at Ball Brothers factory and which numbers over thirty men. who have been camping at Pontiac, Mich., have not returned home yet from their summer’s outing but are expected to arrive here next Tuesday. |
