Report of the late Trip of the Sunny Side. The plan adopted, as shown by the following report, of distributing foods in special quantities, in particular quarters, being approved by those who have made observations in this behalf as likewise by the Sanitary Commission, at the meeting last night, we give it publicity: CINCINNATI BRANCH SANITARY COMMISSION: Gentlemen: I — have delivered from the Sanitary stores which you placed under my charge, to R G. McLean, Surgeon 81st O.V. M., 4 packages; to do. for General Hospital, 6 do; 18th O.V.M., 2 do; Surgeon 31st O.V.M , 4 do; Surgeon 72d O.V.M., 21 do; Surgeon Sherman’s Division, 9 do; Quarter master Sherman’s Division, 2 do; W. D. Carlen, Surgeon 57th O.V.M, 3 do; 5th Ohio Cavalry, 5 do; 52d Indiana, 3 do; 17th O.V.M., 6 do; Hospital at Savannah, 10 do; do. at Fort Henry, 8 do; J. C. Thorpe, Surgeon 20th O.V.M., 8 do; Henry D. Wright, Brigade Quartermaster, also 76th O.V.M, 18; Dr. John C. Beck, Surgeon of Curtis’ Cavalry, 26; S. T. Eachelberger, Hospital Steward 1st O.V.M., 3; D. C. Stock, Hospital Steward, 3d Division, 3; J. M. Cooke, Gen. T. W. Sherman’s Division, 13; A. T. Johnson, Assistant Surgeon 48th O.V.M ,4; Dr. Musgrave, Shiloh Hospital, 8; Capt. Staher, Illinois Cavalry, 5; — Lamb, Chaplain 2d Kentucky, 8. Aside from the above, I distributed in small packages to many Chaplains and Surgeons whom I met at the Landing. I also sent a few packages of fruits &c., to the Surgeons on board the gunboats Lexington and Tylor, which were received with thanks. It may be proper for me to add that I distributed one thousand two ounce bottles of diarrhea mixture, the prescription for which was kindly furnished me by Dr. J. P. Judkins. The medicine was furnished by the drug stores of C. Reakirt, W. J. M. Gordon, Suire, Eckstein & Co., and Dr. Eberly. I packed the bottles in one dozen packages, and distributed them all with my own bands. Meesrs. Gray & Hemingray very kindly donated the bottles. The position which you assigned me enabled me to distribute this medicine all through the lines; and I am satisfied it will do a large amount of good, as I sent the formula with the package, and the Regimental Surgeons, knowing the ingredients, would prescribe it. The steamer Sunny Side was detained from Sunday, 4 P. M , until Thursday evening in unloading the Government freight-board. Our stock of provisions bid fair to give out before we arrived at Paducah, on our way home, and I took the responsibility of drawing on the United States Quartermasters and Commissaries at Pittsburg Landing, Paducah, and Evansville, all of whom were very obliging. With this yon will find account of expenditures, &c. Very truly yours, S.L.HAMLEN. |
