COVINGTON.

THE success or failure of the attempt to obtain natural gas in this city will determine whether or not the city is to be much longer the location of the glass works. The gas has become an indispensable requisite for the future successful prosecution of glass manufacture, and the people of several towns in Ohio seem to be aware of the fact. Those of Toledo, Findlay, Lima, Bowling Green, and other Ohio cities where the gas and oil supply is abundant, have begun making overtures to the Messrs. Hemingray for the removal of the glass-works to there places, and are very desirous of having the arrangement made. The Messrs. Hemingray are loth to transplant their works, but "business is business," and between the alternatives of going where they are, the conditions for present and future prosperity and of staying where their operations must be hampered, languid and uncertain, there is practically no choice. The loss of the glassworks, however, would be in the nature of a misfortune for the city.
