MUNCIE.

Special Dispatch to Commercial Gazette.

MUNCIE, Ind., April 13. — Muncie factories never were busier. Every one of them is running full force. At the Indiana Iron Works over one hundred car loads of goods were shipped last week, and the output will be as large this week. Ball Bros, are now shipping out twenty-five car loads of fruit jars per day, and the Muncie Pulp Works is grinding several car loads of cotton wood into paper every week. This wood comes from Southern Illinois by the train load. At the Midland Steel Works the new train of rolls is in operation, and every department of the mill is working three turns every twenty-four hours.

The Joseph Bell Stock Company never was busier, and the same may be said of the Patton Hollow Ware Works. The Whiteley Malleable Iron Company is unable to find the number of molders needed, and is training a school of fifty young men in the business. Boys from eighteen to twenty-two years of age only are accepted.

Work was begun to-day upon the excavation for the new business block to be built by Edward Bishop, of Dayton, O., on South Walnut street.

The Hemingray Glass Company had minor trouble with a dozen of their female employes this week, caused by the girls demanding higher wages. They are receiving forty cents per day, and wanted raise of ten cents, but did not get it. The report that the girls bombarded the office, keeping Ralph Hemingray in the place several hours, is untrue.

S. C. Keesling has added a new departure to his paper roofing works. Machinery is being placed in the building for the manufacture of iron fencing.

Albany, this county, will do a lot of street paving this year, and will soon let the contracts. There will also be a great deal of building in the little towns. A large hotel will soon be started, together with several business blocks.

There is a notable activity in building circles in Muncie. A large number of residences will be contracted for within the next thirty days, and several contracts for business houses have been made, the erection of which will begin the 1st of May.
