Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune.

MUNCIE. Ind., Dec. 16. — A sensation was caused in social circles here today by the elopement of Miss Sue Hemingray, daughter of the late Robert Hemingray. a wealthy glass manufacturer of Muncie and Covington, Ky., and a leader in Muncie society, and David Cusick, a polo player from Fall River, Mass., now goal tender for the Kokomo team of the Central League.

Twice Refused License.

After twice being refused a license in the local Clerk’s office, the couple took a car to Indianapolis and were married there at 8 o’clock tonight.

Mrs. Hemingray and her daughter returned a few days ago from a summer at Newport, followed by a stay in New York, Chicago and other cities.

Cusick came to Muncie last night from Kokomo. He had played on the Muncie polo team three years previously, and it was while Miss Hemingray cheered his work before the cage that she became infatuated with him. Cusick was an ardent admirer.

Fanned the Flame.

Mrs. Hemingray and other relatives sought to stop the matter then, but their efforts only fanned the flame.

Mrs. Hemingray gave up her residence here and has traveled to California and back East merely to keep her daughter away from Cusick.

This morning Mrs. Hemingray started for Hot Springs for the winter.

Cusick is 25 and the girl 23. Her brother, Robert Hemingray, is a well-known California racing man.

Lived in Covington.

Miss Hemingray is widely known in Covington, Ky. She lived there until three or four years ago, and during that time was one of the most popular society girls of the city. Since moving to Muncie she has frequently visited in Covington, where she is always welcomed by a large circle of friends and admirers.

Miss Hemingray is a niece of Mrs. Bradford Shinkle and Daniel Hemingray, also of Covington. Her mother before her marriage was Miss Fanny Timberlake, of Newport, thus [sic] conecting;connecting her on both sides with the best families of Kentucky.

Engagement Broken.

Several months ago came the announcement of Miss Hemingray's engagement to a prominent business and society man of Muncie, Ind., but recently friends of the family have been informed that it was suddenly broken.

Previous to this there was a rumor to the effect that Miss Hemingray was to wed a St. Louis turfman, a friend of her brother. Robert Hemingray.
