SOUTHERN MANUFACTURES. — There are three pitchers on exhibition at the china store of C. W. Boteler, on Pennsylvania avenue, between Ninth and Tenth streets, which attract considerable attention. They were sent to the Hon. Joshua Hill by the Southern Porcelain Manufacturing Company as a sample of the ware they are producing at this time. The works are located near Augusta, Ga., and it is said the material is found in abundance near them. Good judges say that though the sample is not equal to the best French china, it shows, what was not generally believed, that good earth for the manufacture of porcelain is to be found in the South. The sample is worthy of an examination by the friends of American enterprise. |
