Colonel Dan C. Hemingray, the wealthy glass manufacturer, is at the Waldorf-Astoria. Mr. Hemingray is a member of the National Association of Manufacturers and attended the important meetings of that body during the past few days, including the big banquet on Wednesday night, when Speaker Joe Cannon, of Congress, called a few spades plain spades. Among those who most heartily applauded Speaker Cannon was the Covingtonian, Colonel Hemingray came to New York from White Sulphur Springs.

With friends he was in a big department store yesterday. The testing of tea kettles is the latest form of entertainment and instruction offered in the kitchen department of that store. A number of small stoves are kept burning and a tea kettle sings and bubbles on each stove, while a prospective purchaser stands around listening to the singing.

"Those people are buying camp kettles," said a saleswoman to the Hemingray party. People who camp out like a kettle that rings. They say it sounds home-like and keeps them from getting lonesome. There is a great difference in the musical qualities of different kettles. They can be made to sing in different tones by laying strips of nickel or route similar metal across the kettle a couple of inches from the bottom, Persons who value musical ability in a tea kettle can have its voice tested right here in the store."
